The Helen Smith Davenport Endowed Scholarship Fund
Any Country

This fund establishes a merit scholarship in memory of Helen Smith Davenport, class of 1957, to provide an opportunity for highly qualified sophomores, unable to consider study abroad during a junior year or semester without financial support from Sweet Briar. Preference is given to:

• Sweet Briar Junior Year in France
• Sweet Briar Junior Year in Spain
• Doshisha Women's College of Liberal Arts
• University of Heidelberg
• University of St. Andrews
• University of Urbino

This scholarship is designed to help at least one student further develop her sense of our global community and encourage her to share her experiences upon her return to Sweet Briar for her senior year. For more information, contact the Director of International Studies.

The Junior Year in Spain Scholar Program

This program offers scholarship assistance for incoming students who plan to major or minor in Spanish and to study abroad in Sweet Briar's JYS program in Seville, Spain. Click here for more information.

The Milan Hapala Scholarship
Czech Republic

Czech RepublicThe family of Milan Hapala, Carter Glass Professor Emeritus of Government from 1947 to 1990, has created this scholarship in his memory and for the benefit of future Sweet Briar College students. This scholarship will be awarded by the members of the Government and International Affairs Department to a junior who is majoring in Government or International Affairs. The Anne Lauman Bussey Scholarship
St. Andrews, Scotland

St. Andrews Cathedral Ruins - St. Andrews, ScotlandThis scholarship covers costs associated with a year at the Univeristy of St. Andrews, particularly in situations in which a highly qualified Sweet Briar student might find it necessary to decline the selection because of cost. Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
Any Country

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA)

Royal Palace - Phnom Penh, CambodiaThe primary goal of Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) is to increase the number of U.S. undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia, by providing them with the information and financial assistance they will need. Award recipients are expected to share their experiences with their home campuses to encourage study abroad in East and Southeast Asia by others, and to spread greater understanding of Asian peoples and cultures within their home communities.
